Metalenses

A progressive learning series covering the physics, design, simulation, and inverse design of metalenses. Start here to build a comprehensive understanding of metaoptics.

What is Metaoptics?

Metaoptics is the science and engineering of manipulating light using metasurfaces—two-dimensional arrays of subwavelength optical antennas known as meta-atoms. Unlike conventional optics, which rely on the gradual accumulation of phase through macroscopic curved glass lenses (bulk refraction), metaoptics introduces abrupt, localized phase changes directly at a flat interface.
